;
Spring is a busy time here at Fallon School. Parents should have received second trimester report cards and reviewed them with their children. Our students are not too young to set personal goals for themselves for this final trimester. If your child’s report card indicated that retention is a possibility it is recommended that an appointment be made with the classroom teacher to discuss what needs to be done this third trimester. Parents of students in grades 3-6 should have also received your child’s NECAP Student Report.
I am very proud of the fundraising efforts of our students during the month of March. They worked very hard to raise over $3,500 for Pennies for Patients. I would like to send a great big thank you to Ms. Shaw who spearheaded this project. We are proud to support the efforts of LLS to find cures for blood cancers-leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin disease, and myeloma. More research is needed, because in spite of advances, leukemia is the leading fatal cancer in children ages 1 to 20. Thank you to all who contributed.
This year our students also participated in Jump Rope for Heart, and Hoops for Heart. This project was led by Mr. Laliberte, our physical education teacher. Mr. Laliberte worked hard to help the students raise over ------- for the American Heart Association. Students were also educated in how to maintain a healthy heart lifestyle. Thank you for supporting their efforts. We should all be proud of our school community.
We had two very successful Friends of Fallon sponsored events during the month of March, the Gentlemen’s Choice Event and Family Movie Night. Both events were well attended and very enjoyable evenings. We are grateful to the parents who worked so hard to coordinate these events. These Friends of Fallon events are only possible with the help of dedicated parents. Our next meeting is Wednesday, April 10th, at 6:30. Please make an effort to attend as we make plans for our end of year activities. We are only able to hold Friends of Fallon sponsored events with the help of parent volunteers, please support our efforts.
I would like to remind parents that students should not be reporting to school before 8:10 AM. Only students who arrive to school by bus should be coming through the front doors in the morning. All other students should enter from the Lincoln Avenue entrance if they are coming for breakfast. Students not attending breakfast should enter the schoolyard from the Lincoln Avenue or Tally Street entrances. Students are late for school if they arrive after 8:30 AM. Students who arrive late for school do not have smooth transitions to the school day. Late arrivals and early dismissals are disruptive to student learning. Be on time for school and avoid early dismissals.
School vacation week is April 15, 2013 through April 19, 2013. Students should be doing daily at home reading all year. Please be sure they have books chosen and ready for vacation week. Students in grades 4-6 are gearing up for Battle of the Books in May. We are getting very excited about this event. I wish everyone a Happy Spring! |
