Students will use
balanced literacy strategies to improve reading comprehension in all classes. Students will
participate in the 25 Books Campaign. Students will
complete an on demand task in ELA. Students will
improve their oral and written communication skills. |
Teachers will
participate in available professional development for reading
strategies/balanced literacy in all content areas.
Teachers will model strategies, skills, and habits exhibited by proficient readers. Teachers will use their knowledge of balanced literacy strategies to reinforce the relationship between reading and writing. Teachers will observe each other to share strategies on a voluntary basis. All ELA Ramp-Up teachers will continue to implement the
RUAL I and II workshop model. Teachers will support the 25 Books Campaign by monitoring student logs. |
Examine data and materials for state and local testing. Ramp-Up teachers will use common planning time to evaluate the use of instructional strategies. Analyze grade testing in September and May. Measure changes using progress reports and quarterly report cards. Analyze mid-semester exams and other class assessments. Analyze student work using protocols and rubrics. Use focus walks to gather information. Analyze student performance on CIM tasks to determine successful instructional strategies. All stakeholders will be informed through the website, email, and newsletters. |
All teachers will
adjust and revise instructional strategies. Some time at
faculty meetings and professional development days will be devoted to discussions
and/or workshops on the use of literacy strategies. Information
gathered will be used to evaluate and redesign curriculum. Librarians will purchase
and promote current, appropriate material for the various reading levels. Establish book
clubs. Reward students
who exceed the 25 books requirement. |
Provide training
in balanced literacy, differentiated instruction, and literacy strategies
across all content areas. Fund the position
of Design Coach. Purchase textbooks
and materials for all students. ELA chairperson
and District literacy coach will provide professional development and support
for staff. Examine and revise
the schedule to provide common planning time for special educators in
collaborative classes in 2005-2006. Develop a model
that would allow mentors for core areas to coach special education faculty on
a voluntary basis. |
Increase the
number of students who meet standard on the grade 11 state testing in ELA. Inform parents of
results of action at Report Night, in newsletters, and on the school website. Increase the
number of students who achieve a score of 3 or better on ELA common tasks. Increase the
number of students who successfully transition from Ramp-Up to on level
classes. Increase scores on
English portion of the SAT. |
