January 2025
Dear Wildcat Family,
Welcome to 2025!
As we ROAR into the new year, let’s give thought to our achievements and work towards our goals at Henry J. Winters Elementary School.
Our primary focus is educating students in a safe and nurturing environment. We’ve assessed their knowledge of Rhode Island State Standards throughout the beginning of the year and tailored supports based on the results. Continuous monitoring and adjustments were made to lead to significant gains. Mid-year assessments starting in January will guide us in maintaining this momentum.
Your championing us at home is irreplaceable! Attendance and work habits are significant. Ensure your child attends school regularly and on time. (Pre K students start at 8:40 am and end at 2:40 pm, all other students start at 9:00am and end at 3:10 pm.) Responsibility is critical; remind your child to complete and return homework tasks promptly. Encourage them to put forth their best effort on assignments and projects.
Prioritizing the social-emotional well-being of our students is paramount. The invaluable role of the teacher-student relationship in fostering a sense of belonging is clear. Access to our student support personnel, along with our educational initiatives centered on social-emotional well-being, plays a key role in the daily experiences of our students. We are fortunate to have an amazing Social Worker and Behavior Tech who have a huge hand in aiding students. We will be welcoming a new Guidance Counselor to the team in the near future.
As we welcome everyone back we want to remind families that we have been experiencing a great deal of illness in our community, and the holiday break may not have eliminated the spread.
Reactive Measures:
- A fever of 101 degrees Fahrenheit or higher within the past 24 hours.
- Episodes of vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours.
- If you are unsure, contact our school nurse (401) 729- 6272
Proactive Measures:
- Adequate rest
- Frequent handwashing
- Covering mouth with elbow when coughing or sneezing
- Drinking plenty of water
Colder temperatures are here! A reminder to bundle up children with winter gear. Research shows that regular fresh air and exercise increases student learning. Students participate in outdoor activities during recess unless prevented by weather conditions. Please consider labeling
I want to express my gratitude to all of our Winters’ family for everything you do to uplift our students. We extend our sincerest wishes for a happy, safe new year. May we all go forward with PEACE and good will into 2025.
Sincerely,
April L. Flowers
