Good Morning Goff Families,

Your help is needed:

I am including in this email Lunch Forms. If you haven’t done so yet, can you please quickly fill out this form and return it to our school’s office? The reason why I am asking for your help with this is because it’s really important for us to capture the true need of students and families at Goff so we can be eligible for additional staffing to help students learn through Title 1 funding.

If you already filled out this form or sent in an Auto Qualify Form from the state of RI, I thank you. If you haven’t yet, please consider helping us with this important form.

I truly thank you for helping us with this.

Goff Open House

Monday, September 15 from 5:30-7:30 pm is Goff Welcome Back to School/Open House Night! Open House in middle schools is run differently than elementary school Open Houses. We begin at 5:30 pm, and you – the family – become the student! You will visit your child’s classes in order, as if it was Day 1. Please report to your child’s Day 1, Period 1 class, where you will get student schedules and Title 1 handouts (including a Scavenger Hunt paper)

In addition, we have a CONTEST for you! There is a 12-block Goff Title 1 Scavenger Hunt for you to complete. If you complete 9 or more boxes and turn in your paper, you will be eligible for some Goff prizes. We also will have several community partners on our second floor for you to visit and learn more about our Title 1 program at Goff.

I am attaching the Open House schedule and the Contest paper to this email, but we will be sending home paper copies this afternoon with all students. Although it is not required for you to attend Open House, we’d love to see you on Monday night! We will have Door #2 (the 6th Grade Door facing Vine Street), Door #7 (the Door facing Pullan Ave) and the 7th & 8th Grade Carter Street Doors open for your convenience.

Thanks,

Dr. Suzette Wordell, Principal

Goff Fall Sports Information

Good Afternoon Goff Families,

Goff Middle School participates in the RI Interscholastic Middle School League, which means our students play against other middle school student teams from across Rhode Island for a chance at becoming the Middle School State Championship Team. It’s a great introduction to school-based sports teams, which are open for try-outs to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in a middle school, and is great preparation for high school or college-level sports teams.

All RI Interscholastic Middle School Sports teams are FREE. We provide team uniforms, and practices are after school. We also provide bus transportation to and from Goff for all Away Games for the teams.

This fall, Goff is running 3 teams: Boys’ Soccer, Girls’ Soccer, and a Co-Ed Cross Country Running Team. I am attaching here sign-up information about Boys’ and Girls’ soccer teams, and the information about Cross Country will be sent out separately. If you have any questions regarding the teams, please contact the coaches listed.

If your son is interested in playing Goff Soccer, please email coach Sergio at sergio_tiguila@yahoo.com.

If your daughter is interested in playing Goff Soccer, please email coach Jane at jangel711@yahoo.com.

Thank you, Gladiators,

Dr. Wordell, Principal

U.S. Department of Justice Anti-Vaping Presentation at Goff Middle School

This week, the U.S. Department of Justice (U.S Attorney’s Office – RI District) visited the 8th grade students at Goff Middle School to deliver an informative presentation on the dangers of vaping, e-cigarettes, and opioids. The session was led by retired Rhode Island State Police officer Dave Neill, a Pawtucket native and former Goff Middle School student, who shared age-appropriate insights with our students.

“Girls Can Tool” Workshop

It was an empowering day as our amazing students at Goff and Slater Middle schools got hands-on experience in the trades with the RI Women in the Trades “Girls Can Tool” workshop! It was inspiring to see students building their confidence, breaking barriers, and discovering new passions as they build their own tool boxes and bird houses.

Here’s to more women in the trades, proving that with the right tools (and a little determination), we can tackle anything!

City of Pawtucket Announces 2024-2025 Winter Preparedness Plan

As winter weather approaches, the City of Pawtucket wants to ensure all residents are informed about snow and ice procedures. Please review the important details below to stay prepared and avoid fines during snow emergencies.

For immediate snow updates, we encourage you to follow and/or subscribe to these platforms:

  • Follow on Social Media:
  • Visit the City of Pawtucket website’s homepage: pawtucketri.gov.
  • Sign up for CodeRED: CodeRed is the City’s emergency alert platform where residents can subscribe to calls or texts for any storms or emergency-related issues.

Parking Bans

How do parking bans work?

  • Typically, an on-street parking ban is put into effect when two or more inches of snow are forecasted.
  • Once declared, all vehicles must be moved off the streets during the designated time.
  • Parking bans are announced on the city’s website, social media platforms, CodeRED alerts, and local radio and TV broadcasts.

Avoid fines and towing:

  • Vehicles left on the street during a parking ban will be towed at the owner’s expense or fined $100.
  • After the parking ban is lifted, vehicles must be removed from municipal parking areas within two hours or risk towing and a $100 fine.
  • It is vital that cars are moved into city lots, and then removed from city lots in a timely manner.
  • If cars are left on the street during a ban, this delays the Department of Public Works in their snow removal process, meaning it will take longer for our streets to be cleaned.
  • On the opposite end of the parking ban, it is crucial that cars are removed within the two hour period after lifting the parking ban. Most designated lots are school parking lots. If residents do not remove their car in a timely fashion, it can delay school re-openings.

Alternate parking locations:

  • During parking bans, municipal lots throughout the city are available for parking. Please review the full list of locations below.

Sidewalk Clearing

Responsibilities:

  • Property owners, occupants, or responsible individuals must clear snow and ice from sidewalks within the first 12 hours of daylight after a storm ends.

Fines:

  • The Zoning Department is diligent about issuing these fines as it poses a massive safety threat if sidewalks are not cleared.
  • First offense: $25. Additional fines may apply for repeated violations.
  • Fines are issued at the end of each snowstorm, not at the end of the season.

Senior Snow Shoveling Program

  • The snow shoveling program is currently at capacity, but seniors can join the waiting list. Contact Herb Weiss at hweiss@pawtucketri.gov or call the Senior Center at (401) 728-7582.
  • Seniors on the waiting list will have shoveling-related fines waived. However, we can not guarantee that removal will take place based on the length of the waitlist.

For youth volunteers:

  • Local youth interested in helping shovel snow for seniors can sign up here.

School Cancellations

The Pawtucket School Department uses its own messaging system to communicate directly with parents about school-related updates, including cancellations, delays, and early dismissals. If you are not currently receiving these updates, we encourage you to contact your child’s school to ensure your contact information is up to date.

These updates will also be included in the City’s general messaging, but for the most timely and accurate information, we recommend following the School Department’s platform.

Message from the Principal

School

Goff Middle School is one of three middle schools in the Pawtucket School District.  It is home to just over 780 students in grades 6, 7, and 8 predominantly from Potter Burns, Fallon, Curtis, and Curvin McCabe elementary schools. The student body represents a diverse group of students from many cultures and nationalities.  Over fourteen percent of the student body is characterized as a special population – either special education or ELL.

Goff offers a comprehensive educational program that prepares their students to be life-long, successful learners.  They take their partnership with the home and the community seriously and work to establish an environment that values diversity and fosters respect for all individuals.

Additionally, Goff Middle School offers a wide array of extra and co-curricular activities that are sure to get everyone involved.  Whether it is a sport, a club, or a fine arts production, the students will find an activity that interests them and will get involved and show their Goff Pride.

Goff PRIDE is the foundation upon which everything is done.  P: Personal Responsibility – students will take responsibility for their academics and behavior; R:  Respect – students show respect at all times for their classmates, their school, the adults, and themselves; I:  Involvement – students get involved in all aspects of the school community; D:  Determination – students are determined to succeed; E:  Excellence – students strive for excellence each and every day.
