Message from the Principal

Nathanael Greene Elementary School, aka Greene, is a public school located in Pawtucket, RI. The school building turned 100 years old in 2018 and underwent a massive renovation starting in 2017. Now, it proudly boasts a state of the art facility located within a majestic old building. Greene has 448 students in grades PK-5 with a student-teacher ratio of 22 to 1. At the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year, the school began to roll out a Dual Language (DL) program in two of its Kindergarten classes. There are at present 3 classrooms at each grade level (2 classrooms in PK) and grades K through 3 have a DL program. This differs from the monolingual (English only) program by giving students the opportunity to learn to read and write in both Spanish and English. They also are taught mathematics, science and social studies in both languages. Results of the 2017-2018 Rhode Island Common Assessment System indicate that 27% of students in grades 3 to 5 were proficient on the standardized English Language Arts test and 30% met the standard in Mathematics. This of course only tells part of the story. Greene’s teachers are highly qualified and dedicated to providing their students with complete access to state and local curricula and are experts at differentiating their teaching to support all students.
