As Interim Superintendent, I want to keep our Pawtucket families informed and engaged in the important work happening in our schools around Teaching and Learning. Over the next few weeks, all Pawtucket students in grades K–12 will take the i-Ready Diagnostic in reading and math.
This assessment is not graded, but it is a powerful tool that helps our teachers understand what each student already knows and where they may need more support. The results allow us to personalize instruction, track progress, and design the right supports and challenges for every child.
One of our district priorities this year is to strengthen core instruction in both mathematics and English Language Arts. A key tool we will use to drive this work is the use of benchmark assessments like i-Ready. These assessments give us the data we need to improve teaching and learning in every classroom and ensure all students are on the path to success.
As a district, we are committed to using data like i-Ready to improve outcomes for all learners. Together with families, teachers, and the community, we can ensure every Pawtucket student continues to grow and succeed.
Please take a moment to review the flier, available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, to learn more about i-Ready and how you can support your child at home.

Nathanael Greene Elementary School, aka Greene, is a public school located in Pawtucket, RI. The school building turned 100 years old in 2018 and underwent a massive renovation starting in 2017. Now, it proudly boasts a state of the art facility located within a majestic old building.
Greene has 448 students in grades PK-5 with a student-teacher ratio of 22 to 1. At the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year, the school began to roll out a Dual Language (DL) program in two of its Kindergarten classes. There are at present 3 classrooms at each grade level (2 classrooms in PK) and grades K through 3 have a DL program. This differs from the monolingual (English only) program by giving students the opportunity to learn to read and write in both Spanish and English. They also are taught mathematics, science and social studies in both languages.
Results of the 2017-2018 Rhode Island Common Assessment System indicate that 27% of students in grades 3 to 5 were proficient on the standardized English Language Arts test and 30% met the standard in Mathematics. This of course only tells part of the story. Greene’s teachers are highly qualified and dedicated to providing their students with complete access to state and local curricula and are experts at differentiating their teaching to support all students. Its student body boasts excellent attendance and conduct rates. Our students also participate in after school activities such as Child Opportunity Zone
