August 21, 2022

Dear Parents and Families of Pawtucket School Department Students,

I hope you have had a nice summer and are ready for a new school year.  We look forward to welcoming our students on Wednesday, August 31st, 2022.  You will be receiving information from your child’s school principal for specific information regarding the first day of school and any welcome back events they have planned.

After a summer break, a new school year can be an adjustment.  I encourage you to take the next few weeks to prepare your child for the new school year and school routine.  Some tips may include:  getting to bed earlier to ensure a good night’s rest, and a regular schedule time to get up, and establishing a morning routine.  Breakfast is an important meal of the day, and we continue to have universal free breakfast at our schools.

Although we are no longer in a pandemic, we will continue to follow CDC and RIDE guidance for schools including cleaning and ventilation.  Additionally, students and families should stay up-to-date on vaccinations, stay home when sick, observe hand hygiene and cover coughs/sneezes.  You can find important information on our website which has a new updated look.  Link to PSD Website.  We will continue to provide updates on our Parent & Community Page.

The district is collaborating with the city on a city-wide, drive-thru backpack giveaway on Aug 27th at Jenks, 350 Division Street, 10am-12pm and a Community Connections/Family Fun Event at Fairlawn Veterans Memorial Park, 271 Smithfield Avenue from 1:30-4:00pm.

We are looking forward to seeing our students on the first day of school, August 31st.  If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s school principal.

Sincerely,

Dr. McWilliams,

Superintendent of Schools
