A New Chapter Begins: Elizabeth Baldwin Elementary School Officially Opens: Pawtucket Celebrates the Future of Education with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

PAWTUCKET, RI – The City of Pawtucket and the Pawtucket School Department proudly celebrated the official opening of the new Elizabeth Baldwin Elementary School this morning with a heartfelt ribbon cutting ceremony attended by state & city leaders, school officials, students, families, and community members.

The event, held at the school’s new location on 50 Whitman Street, marked the culmination of a collaborative and community-driven project that promises to serve generations of learners. With support from the Pawtucket City Council, Pawtucket School Committee, and project partners—including Colliers Project Leaders, Torrado Architects/JLA, Shawmut Design and Construction, and RIDE—the state-of-the-art school is now ready to welcome students into an innovative and inclusive learning environment.

“The energy at the ribbon-cutting ceremony was amazing,” said Donald R. Grebien, Mayor of the City of Pawtucket. “Seeing the bright, smiling faces of the kids and the passionate dedication of the teachers was truly remarkable. I wish the students and teachers an exciting and enriching year in this tremendous facility. As Mayor, I will continue to invest in providing our students and teachers with modern facilities that promote academic excellence.”

“Delivering Baldwin Elementary from concept to completion has been an incredible honor,” said Chris Maury, Head of Preconstruction for Shawmut Design and Construction’s New England Region and Head of Rhode Island Operations. “This state-of-the-art facility is built to serve students and families for decades to come, and we’re proud to have partnered with the City of Pawtucket and our project team to bring it to life.”

The ceremony featured passionate state & city leaders, highlighting the cutting-edge classroom spaces, collaborative learning areas, and infrastructure designed to support both academic achievement and emotional well-being of the Baldwin school community.

Interim Superintendent Randy Buck emphasized the lasting impact of the new school:

“Baldwin Elementary represents our shared commitment to ensuring every child in Pawtucket has access to an exceptional education in a safe, inspiring environment. Today is just the beginning.”

The Pawtucket School Department extends heartfelt thanks to all who played a role in making this vision a reality, and to the community members who joined in celebrating this milestone for public education in the city.
