Invitation to Serve on the Slater Middle School Community Advisory Board
Dear Slater School Community,
I hope this message finds you well.
As part of the ongoing Slater Middle School Redesign initiative, we are in the process of reestablishing our Community Advisory Board (CAB)—a vital group that ensures the voices of our community remain at the center of this important work.
Over the past year, our CAB has played a key role in shaping Slater’s redesign priorities. With the Rhode Island Department of Education granting Pawtucket a one-year extension, we are taking this opportunity to refine and refocus the board’s membership and structure to align with updated state guidelines and our next phase of work.
The CAB will continue to serve as an advisory body, providing valuable insight and feedback on the school’s redesign efforts and helping ensure that community perspectives guide every decision. Members will include parents, students, elected officials, faith and community leaders, business and nonprofit partners, and other local stakeholders who represent the diverse voices of Pawtucket.
Serving on the CAB will require a commitment to active participation between now and June 2026, including both in-person and virtual meetings and a willingness to engage as thought partners focused on improving outcomes for Slater Middle School. As a member of the CAB, you can also anticipate pre-work and post-work for our meetings, which will help maximize our time together. If this level of involvement doesn’t fit your current schedule, please know that’s completely understandable as there will still be opportunities to stay informed and provide feedback as the redesign work continues.
We are also pleased to share that this year, our work will be supported in partnership with Mass Insight, a nationally recognized organization with deep experience in school transformation and community engagement. Together, we will collaborate closely with the CAB to strengthen Slater’s redesign implementation and monitor progress.
If you are interested in serving or continuing to serve on the Slater Community Advisory Board, please complete this short Interest Form by Friday October 31st, 2025. Tuesday, November 2nd, 2025.
Your perspective and leadership are essential to helping us create a stronger, more responsive Slater Middle School for all students.
Thank you for your continued commitment to our community and schools.
Warm regards,
Randy A. Buck
Interim Superintendent of Schools
