SurveyWorks Family Survey

RIDE values your feedback! We are currently surveying families in order to gain insight into your perception of our school and district effectiveness. To ensure we continue to provide high quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet the needs of our learners and prepare them for college and career, we need your feedback. The survey shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to complete, and will be a valuable source of information for us as we work to make our schools and district as good as they can be. You can take the short survey online until March 31. To take the survey, visit: bit.ly/ridefamily

i-Ready Diagnostic: What Parents Need to Know

Superintendent’s Message

As Interim Superintendent, I want to keep our Pawtucket families informed and engaged in the important work happening in our schools around Teaching and Learning. Over the next few weeks, all Pawtucket students in grades K–12 will take the i-Ready Diagnostic in reading and math.

This assessment is not graded, but it is a powerful tool that helps our teachers understand what each student already knows and where they may need more support. The results allow us to personalize instruction, track progress, and design the right supports and challenges for every child.

One of our district priorities this year is to strengthen core instruction in both mathematics and English Language Arts. A key tool we will use to drive this work is the use of benchmark assessments like i-Ready. These assessments give us the data we need to improve teaching and learning in every classroom and ensure all students are on the path to success.

As a district, we are committed to using data like i-Ready to improve outcomes for all learners. Together with families, teachers, and the community, we can ensure every Pawtucket student continues to grow and succeed.

Please take a moment to review the flier, available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, to learn more about i-Ready and how you can support your child at home.

Randy A. Buck
Interim Superintendent
Pawtucket School Department

📘 i-Ready Diagnostic: What Parents Need to Know

Over the next few weeks, all PSD students (K–12) will take the i-Ready Diagnostic in reading and math.
Students take this assessment three times a year so teachers can see growth and plan the best supports.

🔎 What is the i-Ready Diagnostic?

  • A computer test that adapts to each student.
  • Questions get harder if the student answers correctly, and easier if they answer incorrectly.
  • Shows teachers what students already know and what they still need to learn.

🎯 Why is my child taking it?

  • It is not a graded test.
  • Helps teachers:
    • Personalize lessons
    • Provide the right support or challenges
    • Track progress through the year

🤝 How can I help my child?

  • Talk about their results. Celebrate progress and encourage effort.
  • Partner with teachers. Ask for ideas, resources, and ways to support learning at home.

Together, we can help every child grow and succeed!

🤝 ¿Cómo puedo ayudar a mi hijo?

  • Personalizar as aulas

City of Pawtucket Announces 2024-2025 Winter Preparedness Plan

As winter weather approaches, the City of Pawtucket wants to ensure all residents are informed about snow and ice procedures. Please review the important details below to stay prepared and avoid fines during snow emergencies.

For immediate snow updates, we encourage you to follow and/or subscribe to these platforms:

  • Follow on Social Media:
  • Visit the City of Pawtucket website’s homepage: pawtucketri.gov.
  • Sign up for CodeRED: CodeRed is the City’s emergency alert platform where residents can subscribe to calls or texts for any storms or emergency-related issues.

Parking Bans

How do parking bans work?

  • Typically, an on-street parking ban is put into effect when two or more inches of snow are forecasted.
  • Once declared, all vehicles must be moved off the streets during the designated time.
  • Parking bans are announced on the city’s website, social media platforms, CodeRED alerts, and local radio and TV broadcasts.

Avoid fines and towing:

  • Vehicles left on the street during a parking ban will be towed at the owner’s expense or fined $100.
  • After the parking ban is lifted, vehicles must be removed from municipal parking areas within two hours or risk towing and a $100 fine.
  • It is vital that cars are moved into city lots, and then removed from city lots in a timely manner.
  • If cars are left on the street during a ban, this delays the Department of Public Works in their snow removal process, meaning it will take longer for our streets to be cleaned.
  • On the opposite end of the parking ban, it is crucial that cars are removed within the two hour period after lifting the parking ban. Most designated lots are school parking lots. If residents do not remove their car in a timely fashion, it can delay school re-openings.

Alternate parking locations:

  • During parking bans, municipal lots throughout the city are available for parking. Please review the full list of locations below.

Sidewalk Clearing

Responsibilities:

  • Property owners, occupants, or responsible individuals must clear snow and ice from sidewalks within the first 12 hours of daylight after a storm ends.

Fines:

  • The Zoning Department is diligent about issuing these fines as it poses a massive safety threat if sidewalks are not cleared.
  • First offense: $25. Additional fines may apply for repeated violations.
  • Fines are issued at the end of each snowstorm, not at the end of the season.

Senior Snow Shoveling Program

  • The snow shoveling program is currently at capacity, but seniors can join the waiting list. Contact Herb Weiss at hweiss@pawtucketri.gov or call the Senior Center at (401) 728-7582.
  • Seniors on the waiting list will have shoveling-related fines waived. However, we can not guarantee that removal will take place based on the length of the waitlist.

For youth volunteers:

  • Local youth interested in helping shovel snow for seniors can sign up here.

School Cancellations

The Pawtucket School Department uses its own messaging system to communicate directly with parents about school-related updates, including cancellations, delays, and early dismissals. If you are not currently receiving these updates, we encourage you to contact your child’s school to ensure your contact information is up to date.

These updates will also be included in the City’s general messaging, but for the most timely and accurate information, we recommend following the School Department’s platform.

Message from the Principal

Dear Potter Burns Families,

WELCOME BACK TO POTTER – BURNS! To our new families, let me be the first to say Welcome, to our returning students and families, Welcome Back! I hope you all had a fun and healthy summer. The purpose of this letter is to review the Morning Drop Off, and Afternoon Pick Up procedures.

Morning Drop Off:

The school day for students begins at 8:30am. In order to have students start their day off on a calming and positive note, I have instituted the following changes.

Students cannot be dropped off at school until 8:15. Student drop off will take place from 8:15-8:30. Please use the drop off lane located in the parking area on Carter Avenue. When dropping off your child or children, please pull right up to the car in front of you, and either myself, or a student safety patrol member will open the door for you. Stay in your vehicle. I am also asking that students be on the right hand side of the car(side closest to the building), this is for safety reasons, I do not want the safety patrol or younger students exiting the vehicle from the traffic side. Do not have your child exit the vehicle until the door is opened by either myself, or a member of the safety patrol.

All students, Grades K-5 will enter the building through Door#1( main door). Once in the school, students will proceed to their classroom, and sit outside the room and wait for their teacher to open the classroom. While students are waiting to enter the classroom, they will be monitored by teachers.

   Afternoon PickUp:

Afternoon pick up procedure will remain the same. Teachers will dismiss the students out the doors closest to their classrooms.

                                                 Grades K&1: Front Door

                                                 Grade 2,: Door 6

                                                 Grades 3 & 4: Door 2

                                                 Grade 5:Door #5
