Dear PSD family,
As you may have heard, earlier this week, a heating coil failure caused a pipe to burst on the
third floor at Winters Elementary School. Water permeated all three levels in one wing of the
building, affecting classrooms and common spaces. Gilbane Building Company and restoration
companies have been working at Winters to determine the extent of the damage, and have
already started repairs and the clean up process.

While this has been going on, students have been on Distance Learning. Due to the extensive
damage and the amount of clean up needed, it has been determined that Distance Learning will
unfortunately have to continue through all of next week as well (Feb 13th-17th). We recognize
this is incredibly frustrating for the Winters students, families, faculty, staff, and administration,
but it is necessary to make sure everyone is able to return to a safe and clean environment.

Food services have been set up and will continue to run throughout next week, as they have
this past week. We are also trying to organize some student activities for next week to be held in
the unaffected areas of the building. Principal SanMartino-Clint

on and her team are working on
these details and determining the plausibility of these activities.
I share this with you today so that you may keep the Winters Elementary School Community in
your thoughts during this difficult time. Rest assured that getting them back to safe in-person is
our priority.

Sincerely,

Lisa Benedetti-Ramzi
Acting Superintendent
