Frequently Asked Questions

The question of evaluating educators who plan on retiring was asked. RIDE has replied that all educators, even those planning on retiring, MUST be evaluated.

Any PD after the last day of the previous school year can be counted. HINT: Be sure to make use of the PGR template to record your PD as you go along instead of trying to add it all at the end of the year!

If an educator wants a second observer, they are to request one, via email (evaluation@psdri.net) at least five (5) school days* prior to  their formal observation and CC the evaluator/evalutee. Please note that it is more likely that we will be able to arrange for a second observer if you make this request with as much notice as possible.

Educators may not choose their second observer. If they are offered a Peer Evaluator as their second observer, or if their evaluator chooses to bring a Peer Evaluator, the educator may decline. Educators may not decline an administrator as their second observer.

In the case of two (2) observers, evidence will be combined and submitted to the educator via frontline according to the schedule. Rating will be done by consensus. If requested, the observers will identify the evidence collected by each evaluator.

* updated on 12/19/14 to reflect new contract language. DEC had previously approved 6 weeks.

Log into frontline and choose the year of your past evaluation that you would like to view.

To access the ratings click the small + to open Teacher Scoring Forms and then the icon highlighted below. This will open the scoring form from that year.  To access your PGG or Lesson plan click the appropriate form.

Anyone hired or returning from leave after November 8, 2021, will not be able to work the 135 days that trigger a full evaluation. This means that they do not have to write a PGG and will not receive a Final Effectiveness Rating in frontline. THEY WILL AUTOMATICALLY HAVE A FULL EVALUATION THE NEXT YEAR. However, if they are NON-TENURED, their evaluator must still evaluate them on Standards 2 & 3.

Anyone who is out more than 48 days will not be able to work the 135 days that trigger a full evaluation. This means that they do not have to submit final results for their PGG and will not receive a Final Effectiveness Rating in frontline. THEY WILL AUTOMATICALLY HAVE A FULL EVALUATION THE NEXT YEAR. However, if they are NON-TENURED, their evaluator must still evaluate them on Standards 2 & 3.

Anyone who is hired or returning from leave BEFORE the 45th day of school (November 8, 2021) will be required to complete all components of the Evaluation Cycle, but may request extended due dates adjusted to:

  • PGGs – not more than 2 weeks

  • Evidence for 3.5 – not more than 6 weeks

  • Lesson Plan/Standard 1 Template – not more than 2 weeks

Educators working less than 135 days out of the school year do NOT have to be formally evaluated. Educators should be evaluated on Standards 2&3 and recorded in frontline.
Please Note: Evaluators will need to check off in frontline, no FER (Final Effectiveness Rating).  The reason will be other and evaluator can note, late hire.
Therefore, educators hired (appointed) after November 8, 2021, fall into this category this year, along with those who have been absent due to illness or leave. The latter will require calculating the number of days worked on an individual basis.
